A bit about myself

Hi, I’m Tony, a qualified teacher in England (PGCE with QTS) and the founder of TutorAnt, which I started back in November 2014.

My passion for teaching began during my A levels, when I joined a volunteer group running evening classes for school staff and their families. I taught GCSE Biology, and quickly realised that the lessons often went beyond the science -I was also helping with reading, writing, and building confidence. I loved the challenge of finding ways to make learning click for each person.

After completing my BSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry, I carried on tutoring chemistry at university level for four years before stepping into teaching roles here in England. Since then, I’ve worked as a cover supervisor, support trainer, and teacher, delivering GCSE Maths, Science, and English revision courses in secondary schools across Yorkshire and County Durham.

I’ve taught learners from all sorts of backgrounds, and my CELTA qualification means I can also support students who are learning English as an additional language. Over the years, I’ve worked with people from all over the world, from beginners to advanced learners, and every single one has taught me something in return.

Teaching isn’t just my job -it’s what I love doing. If we work together, my aim is simple: to help you feel confident, capable, and ready to succeed. I look forward to helping you learn.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe good teaching is about finding the right balance between kindness and challenge. Students need to know they’re supported and understood, but they also need to learn to take responsibility for their work. If we only focus on helping them, they can become dependent. If we only push them, they can lose confidence.

My goal is to help students build both confidence and character. I want them to understand that effort matters just as much as results, and that learning isn’t just about passing exams - it’s about learning how to think, question, and grow.

Whether I’m teaching science or English, I aim to make lessons encouraging, honest, and practical, showing students that effort and curiosity are key. Every learner deserves to feel capable and valued - my role is to help them believe that, and to guide them in becoming confident, responsible, and kind individuals who can make a difference.
